Feng Shui in the Classroom

Teacher & Students     Classrooms are a very important place to incorporate feng shui, as our teachers and children spend so much time in them during the school year. The classroom should be an environment that allows teachers and students to interact progressively in harmony. The ability of a teacher to effectively communicate ideas and guide students, and the ability of the students to absorb information is of the utmost importance.

To enhance focus, intelligence, and elicit respect from students, the teacher’s desk ideally sits in a direction that is compatible with him or her. This compatibility promotes the teacher’s personal energy and is determined using calculations based on his or her birth date. The teacher’s desk should also be placed where it has the greatest command of the room. A solid wall behind the teacher’s chair stabilizes their energy, increases focus, and gathers strength. This sense of security minimizes distractions by preventing people from coming up from behind.

The door into the classroom is ideally to the teacher’s upper left hand side when they are seated at the desk. The left hand side is associated to the energies of generating income and positive relationships. A door to the upper right hand side can bring complaints or conflicts. There should not be any source of movement, such as air from an air vent that can potentially move needed energy away from the teacher. Obstructions, doors, and protruding columns should also not be aligned with the teacher’s desk.

Depending on the size of the classroom and number of students, there are ways of arranging the student desks to maximize positive interaction between the students and the teacher. When students are able to face their teacher, the connection between them is strong and communication is clear. Feng shui is especially helpful for children who have difficulty learning. Their desks can be specifically arranged based on their personal energies to increase their ability to process information.

Though furniture arrangement is a vital aspect of creating good feng shui, there are many other ways to enhance a classroom’s energy using special colors, plants, symbols, and artwork. The specific adjustments will vary depending on the students’ energies. For example, if a class is generally energetic, using light colors such as cream, light yellow, light blue, or light greens with natural ocean sounds or similar background music can create a peaceful environment that helps children calm down and focus. An abundance of bold or loud colors, such as bright red, dark blue, magenta, or fluorescent green can over-stimulate and cause hyperactivity in some children.

Indeed, the feng shui of school classrooms plays an extremely vital role in our children’s educations. The classroom is a place where young people not only learn reading, writing, and arithmetic, but they also develop social skills. A well thought out classroom can be a place of potential creativity and vital energy that introduces the child to their own potential as a growing, evolving member of society.
